News!

fuckyeahpwg:

Mystery Vortex, called the best PWG show of 2012 by some, is now shipping! You can still order yours from PWG’s website or HighSpots.com and those who pre-ordered should receive it soon!

El Generico, a PWG mainstay and one of only two Grand Slam winners in PWG history, has officially signed with WWE. I can only speak for myself as a fan, but I am thrilled for Generico, who has truly earned this opportunity. He’s one of the best in the world and has an incredible connection with fans on every corner of the globe. Generico was hastily readded to this weekend’s DDT4 tournament after initially being taken out so the assumption is he will have one last farewell in PWG before leaving for WWE.

In PWG, Generico is a former world champion, tag team champion, DDT4 winner and Battle of Los Angeles winner - so yeah, he’s done some stuff!

DDT4 is this weekend, and is a SUPER NO VACANCY SELL OUT! You can’t get tickets online but if you were planning to get some at the door you MAY be able. Very limited supply, so get there early if you want a chance to be part of 2013’s first huge indie show. Here is the listing for Round 1.

Finally, Brian Cage is said to be one of the competitors in TNA’s Gut Check later tonight. The contest is being revamped, so now instead of wrestling a TNA talent, Cage will likely be wrestling another young prospect, and the TNA judges will then decide who is worthy of a coveted TNA roster spots. Again, it’s great to see such a talented competitor get a chance. Those who kept up with PWG through 2012 will know that Brian has come on leaps and bounds as a competitor, with stellar performances all year, a great presence and charisma, and he has developed quite the fan base in Reseda. I look forward to seeing him get his shit in in TNA.

Ladies and gentlemen; This… is SERIOUS!
Sorry, I had to channel Excalibur there - but yes, all eight teams in the DDT4 tournament have been announced!
The reuniting FUTURE SHOCK (PWG World Champion Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly)
Two time DDT4 winners THE YOUNG BUCKS (Nick & Matt Jackson)
Returning to PWG for the first time in almost two years THE BRISCOE BROTHERS
Dragon Gate’s own WORLD-1 INTERNATIONAL (Ricochet & Rich Swann)
Defending DDT4 champions, and PWG tag team champions SUPER SMASH BROS. (Player Uno & Stupefied)
THE DOJO BROS (Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong)
THE UNBREAKABLE FUCKIN’ MACHINES (“Unbreakable” Michael Elgin & Brian Cage)
And finally, the wild card, the reunited team of EL GENERICO AND KEVIN STEEN!
PLUS! In a match just announced, Sami Callihan will take on Drake Younger… in a KNOCKOUT OR SUBMISSION ONLY MATCH! This will be the second of the duo’s three match series, with the winner getting a title shot in the near future. Callihan is up one win to zero, following his win at Mystery Vortex.
Folks, this is going to be one not to miss! Since inception, DDT4 has always been a must-see affair, as the best tag teams in the world go to war with only one team coming out on top. The 2011 and 2012 DDT4 shows went down as some of the best in company history and the trend looks to continue this coming January! My first column with PWPonderings: Is Brian Cage ready for PWG Gold?

Yes, I am very hyped about having a column with PWP, the best damn indie website on all of the internet! News, reviews, opinions, results and more can be found there, mainly for independent groups, but they also have coverage of WWE and TNA.

My first opinion piece is on Brian Cage, one of PWG’s up and coming stars. You can check it on this link, and keep an eye on PWP for more posts from me in the near future. Im hoping to do one or two a month. Share and such!

Mr. GMSI Brian Cage Taylor.

One to Watch: Brian Cage-Taylor

Yes, the jacked up guy in Chuck Taylor’s wacky clique of brothers/cousins/whatevers in PWG.

For a while he was just a fun opening match guy to me, a big dude who could move around well, had decent charisma and was able to act as a great base for the smaller guys in PWG - but in recent months he has been jumping out at me as someone who could potentially be one of the most entertaining guys on the indies.

The Fightin’ Taylor Boys have had a series of good to great matches on the last few PWG shows, actually becoming something of a beloved “homegrown” act as they aren’t promoted in other more prominent companies such as ROH and Chikara. With the crowd in Reseda always willing to give guys a chance, both Taylors really got to show why they’re not just curtain-jerkers or wacky comedy guys, with Brian Cage in particular trying to, well as he would say, get his shit in at every turn.

Bigger and more muscular than pretty much anyone else in the promotion, especially since Claudio Castagnoli set his sights on WWE, Cage is now the resident strong guy in PWG, who can throw people around with ease and impress fans with feats of strength not usually associated with the fast-paced, hard hitting style of PWG (again, Claudio excepted). His most recent breakout performance was an excellent showcase against The RockNES Monsters at this year’s DDT4 tournament. Highlights included Cage suplexing Johnny Goodtime while Goodtime had his own partner resting on his shoulders and perhaps even more impressively - Cage hitting a double jump, turnaround moonsault from the top rope onto a prone opponent.

That feat is more impressive if you’ve actually seen it for yourself, as Cage looks exactly like a big, muscular dude you’d expect to see signed to a WWE developmental deal, which he actually was a few years ago. His agility is very impressive for a guy of his size and when you watch some of his more recent performances it’s hard to understand why he hasn’t at least been considered for another try in WWE. As well as having the look, and the ability to wrestle and fly, Cage is no slouch on the mic.

Last year, Cage endeared himself to the PWG faithful with his new nickname of “Mr. G.M.S.I.” - meaning “get my shit in,” a reference to the term used when wrestlers try too hard to get all their highspots in one match, with little rhyme, reason, or storytelling. Chants of “GET YOUR SHIT IN” boomed out of the dingy First Union Centre in Reseda this past October, as The Taylors (once again battling the RockNES Monsters) put on a spectacular show and had the crowd buzzing for all they had to offer. At the next event, Cage impressed again by taking the mic prior to the opening contest and unleashing a hilarious rant on the team of Los Luchas who had once again cancelled a PWG appearance because, according to Cage, they “failed to get across the border.”

After a fun battle with Ray Rosas at World’s Finest, which also felt like a great illustration of what Cage can do, and the aforementioned DDT4 bout, Cage earned himself a world title match with Kevin Steen this past Friday at “Death to all but Metal.” While he didn’t take home the gold, and the DVD has yet to be released - early reports were that Cage tore the house down, and much like his peer Willie Mack, as made real strides in proving he can be a top guy in the promotion.

It’s always great to see someone improve so quickly, and establish themselves on the indies, but as always you have to wonder; could the “big leagues” be watching? A lot has changed since 2008, and Cage could potentially turn a lot of heads should he return to FCW soon. Or perhaps TNA, who are bringing in new stars once a month for their “Gut Check” concept, could snap up the hot young prospect.

Who knows? But for the time being, you can catch Brian in action every month on the latest PWG releases, which you can pick up at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s website or from HighSpots.com. He is just one of many, many, many reasons you should.
