Show of the Year: WWE EXTREME RULES
This was a tough call. There were some amazing cards this year, from all around the world. In the end though, I don’t remember having a buzz after a wrestling show quite like I had with Extreme Rules 2012. Another super hot Chicago crowd was just the icing on the cake, as WWE put on an unforgettable night of action that showed just how great they can be in 2012. The main event was a brutal spectacle, unlike anything we’ve seen in WWE for years. It was brutal, it was engaging, and it was certainly controversial. Brock Lesnar took on John Cena in a match that was hard to take your eyes off of, as the former UFC star put an almighty beatdown on the face of the WWE. As well as fun undercard contests like Kane vs. Randy Orton - the show had two other stellar main events; CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho in a street fight, and Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus in a 2/3 Falls Match. The latter was an absolute classic, as Bryan finally got to show what he could do in a long world championship match on WWE PPV. With hard hitting action, a divided crowd and excellent storytelling - these two wrestled a damn near perfect match. It was so good, with Sheamus giving the performance of his career as a wounded babyface champion, that it actually managed to quell the potential backlash against the champ that was bubbling under the surface, following WWE’s questionable decision to have him beat Bryan in 18 seconds at Wrestlemania. That match alone makes this a must watch but the fact that it has several other awesome matches means EVERY wrestling fan should own a copy of this show.
