John Cena vs. ECW Referee John Finnegan, the poor bastard
Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka
Rewatching the excellent Barbed Wire City documentary a few days ago - this quote from New Jack stood out to me. People always talk in a quite light hearted way about Paul Heyman’s infamous silver tongue and how he rallied the troops of ECW with motivational talks and endlessly dangling carrots - but knowing what we know now about ECW, and it’s effect on the performers, should Heyman be judged more harshly for promising success to wrestlers who brutalised themselves often for literally no money?
I took a look at the latest retelling of the ECW story. This one however was a lot more brutal, and a lot more honest than you might expect. Read the review!
The ECW Championship That Never Was
Personally, I was a fan of the big silver belt. The old ECW title was an abomination and the big gold belt is perhaps the best looking belt ever made, so why not take after it when rebooting ECW? I really liked the firey eagle and how it was incorporated into the intro of the show. Maybe it’s a good thing they stuck with the silver before abandoning the ECW brand and title altogether (along with final champion Ezekiel Jackson), but I like this colorful red and gold fan design.
